Solar Canyon (2025)

Solar Canyon was a long time coming, sitting almost complete for the best part of a year. It came out of a brief musical idea I put together in August 2023, based on a propulsive Jon Hopkins-style bassline and mental images I had of a fiery, sunburnt desert-like landscape. The initial idea came together rather quick -- like with many of my other EDM tracks -- but it turned into a musical obsession that slowly churned away over several months. I got to a point of near completion by early 2024, but spent many more months on and off tweaking it, leaving it, and re-tweaking once more. These refinements, although sometimes tedious or (likely) inaudible, I think in the end were worth it. I really revelled in the composition and mix process, seeing how far I could push the embellishments and polish. But as with all creative endeavours, the work has to come to an end -- I wanted to move on and make more space for my other music projects, and so I finally put the beast to rest in December 2024 and uploaded to streaming services.

It is a behemoth progressive piece -- one of my largest -- full of fiery atmosphere, melodic flare, and a propulsive EDM energy that draws inspiration from Jon Hopkins' atmospheric techno. Releasing on 1 January 2025, it also marked a new chapter in my musical journey: it is hopefully the first step towards a list of many more projects I will complete this year. Time will tell (and this about section might change as a result!).
