Celestial Waters (2024) - Collaboration

The night sky and the vast oceans beneath it have captured the collective imagination of mankind for countless centuries. But for a moment, picture these two otherworldly realms colliding in a very literal sense.

Step into a universe where gargantuan whales soar majestically amongst the celestial currents of deep space, their calls echoing silently across the infinite darkness.

Bask in the dazzling beam of a distant towering lighthouse suspended over nothingness, as it guides ships through the perilous cosmic void.

Fix your gaze upon a far flung planet engulfed by churning waters, its restless waves illuminated by the fiery trail of a spacefaring vessel emerging from the glowing depths of an ancient underwater civilisation.

This is just some of the vivid fantastical imagery that inspired "Celestial Waters" — a year-and-a-half-long collaborative album project that sought to capture unique surrealist visions of sea and space. Led by Wellington-based composer/producer and sonic artist Alter Natural (Nathan Carter), this album beautifully intertwines the imaginative, genre-diverse worlds of five distinct composers. They now invite you to join them on a captivating voyage through an endless ocean of eternal starlight.
