Film description:
"‘Mellow’ is a fully 3D animated film that tells the story of an anxious young researcher named Holly who breaks away from her reliance on external authority. Holly finds her own self-confidence after she is required to kill a lizard-like creature that supposedly threatens the bird-like creatures she is tasked to research. 'Mellow' is a reference to the protagonist Holly's meek personality and traits that she must learn to overcome. It is also a homophone of a flower-like weed, the 'Mallow', which can be seen in the film."
This animation project features my first ever full orchestral film score. It was an interesting challenge that took me a little out of my comfort zone, especially considering the music was the only sound present throughout - it had to underscore the narrative and emotional journey in a way that filled the sound space, but that did not overly distract from what was on screen. I added subtle electronic layers to help set the atmosphere at some points, and worked with small leitmotifs to create a cohesive musical tapestry throughout the storyline.
