Angstrom (2022 - present)

About

Angstrom is an in-development granular synthesis tool I created as part of my independent honours research at the New Zealand School of Music in 2022. Coded in Max/MSP, this tool acts as a standalone sound design interface through which you can input live or pre-recorded sounds and output the granular transformations as a live performance/recording. Multiple effects greatly extend upon the monophonic granulation engine to create a wide variety of sound designs, including a polyphonic spraying delay and a classic tape-delay in parallel, filtering, distortion, and reverb. Many of the system's parameter ranges are also user-adjustable, enabling for various levels of micro- and macro-scale adjustments to each grain and effect parameter for even more performance variation. Keep an eye out for future developments and updates (follow my socials!)

Audio Examples

Angstrom is capable of producing a wide range of musical textures and creative sound designs; every example here is a raw audio output recorded directly from Angstrom. In some cases, the audio processing is so extreme that the original source sound is completely unidentifiable (e.g., 'Arcade Atmosphere' and 'Ambient Wind' both came from mouth noises).
